Water Water Everywhere

Today I am going to share some flood pictures with you. I know some of you are probably thinking "What the hell does she know about flooding? She is in Manhattan." Or maybe you aren't. Well, it's true. I have not seen any flooding. I'm just waiting for that one giant tidal wave to come and knock out the whole city. Regardless, I do have some pictures for you of the mighty Mississippi eating my hometown.

I was born and raised in the Quad Cities. See the map here. It's that lump when Iowa gets on top of Illinois. Dirty. Anyway, they really don't have it that bad there but enough that my mother was inspired to take these photos from her office in Davenport Iowa.

Mmmm that lovely brown water I grew up with. No wonder I was so intrigued by the Bahamas.

Last night my friend and old roommate of four years took a big risk for a chick and chopped off her long hair into a sexy little bob. The excitement of the hot new hair inspired her to make a visit to my place with Bellinis. The offering of alcohol was a smart way to get us started on a fashion shoot. I didn't upload the photos of me yet but I wanted to share this picture I took of her.

My crappy digital camera can be difficult to work with when I want natural light. It goes all blurry on me. In this case it turned out looking like an oil painting which I really like. It's a little bit jazz. There are several others that are not blurry like this but I am fond of how this turned out.
Hey, like my new wine glasses? They were one of my birthday gifts from the boyfriend.
A.D.D. Bye!

Great pic! It totally looked like a painting! (Is it really the camera or the bullinis?)

How cool! I can't pull off those great little bobs. Lately, I can't even pull off a pony tail....

GEEEEZE, thirty something is really ailing my outer beauty!

And, HOLY FLOODNESS!! Man, if we could have a couple of inches of that all around here and on the farms? That'd be a dry city by now and we'd all be happily heading to the bank.

Weird how it hits where it isn't needed and not where it is...

Your blog has once again inspired me. This time I was inspired to go with a cute lil bob cut of my own. Nice!!

You grew up in Leighann's neighborhood! And great pic of your friend!!

Is it just me or does her clothing remind anyone of a sexied up 19th century victorian dress?

Although I'm pretty sure that chick could look good in a burlap sack. After wandering the streets of your wet hometown.

ESPECIALLY after that!

Are the Subway and Burger King still open in Davenport? And you need to share the other pics.

I've been to the Quad Cities once. And I've been to Iowa City and Cedar Rapids a couple of times. I actually thought it was wonderful there. The people were really amazingly great there. I really feel for the people who are suffering from the floods.

Your friends haircut is really sexy! Love it! And the pic is really cool too.

Oh, I've seen flooding first hand plenty of times and it is mighty powerful at times.

And I was in the great Alaskan earthquake in 1964, that is more spooky than flooding.

At least in flooding you have an idea it is coming but a quake just hits you.

Ha. Love the "dirty" description of Iowa and Illinois. I think the motion blur effect along with the shadows makes it look pretty cool. Cheers Knight!!

Farmer*swife- Ha, It might be a little of both. Isn't it sad we have no way to get the extra water where it needs to be?

TLJ- You shaved it! Jeez, I hope you shaved it. You don't have the delicate features to pull off the bob.

Dana- I knew she was in Illinois somewhere but I wasn't sure where.

Mike- You are right on about her outfit. She loves that style. If she didn't have such an issue with getting dirt on her hands I would try the burlap sack shoot for you.

Knot- Huh? Davenport is pretty big. I'm sure they have pleanty of fast food chains that are not under water yet.

Jay- Depends who you meet! I do feel for all the people that have lost homes and businesses.
You can't see her haircut too well in this photo but it really is very hot.

BBC- I have been near flooding and tornados in my childhood but that is about it.

GMEyster- Can you imagine how brunch would go if they gave us glasses like those?

Matt-Man- Thanks! I point out the dirty stuff just incase you drop by ;)

Gary- It looks pretty bad doesn't it? I wish I had before pictures so you could see all the missing streets.

Farmer*swife- Thanks! I don't know which one you are talking about because I keep switching it. For a minute I had one up where my hair was teased.

Furiousball- Oh she already knows. ;)

Wow...that is an amazing photo! I hope she frames that!

Hmm..I dunno..floods are supposed to be bad..but the pics make it look so calm....deadly calm maybe.... I guess one needs to be present there to

the pic of ur friend looks amazing... u must frame it up and give it to her next birthday...but excuse me for this...to me it seems she looks sad..i hope that is NOT the case in reality...i hope i did not offend.

that is an amazing photo! you should join the creative photography project - it's on my sidebar. that shot is art kid

I keep seeing coverage of the floods and I look around my house and wonder how it would feel for it to be under water. I feel so bad for all those folks.

think they'll ever get the levees right!?

P.S.... I am loving your new profile image!

Leighann- Seriously? We must have a connection there somehow. I grew up in Moline.

RLL- I wish I could see it in person. It's a hard thing to comprehend through photos.

vishvsambyal- the flood photos are eerily calm and beautiful aren't they. That bothered me a little too. I might just frame it for her birthday. Good plan. Don't worry, she isn't sad. She is just posing. Actresses are so dramatic.

Dianne- Hmmm, I might just do that! I have never thought much of my photography but it would be fun at least.
I can not even imagine my apartment under water. Well, I'm several stories up so that would be very terrifying but still, losing everything you have is a horrifying thought.

Oh, I prefer my wine right out of the bottle. Just toss the cap or cork away and have at it.

I had explosive diarrhea for, like, three weeks straight.

My neighborhood looked just. like. that.

I was born in the Quad Cities - Moline - and grew up in Iowa. And I lived in NYC for a very long time. Mostly in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Really like your blog. Sorry about your seizure - it's sounds very scary - but am very glad you had someone to help you out.
