44th Prez in the House

Today at 11:54pm EST I walked with a couple coworkers into our conference room to watch the Inauguration of President Barack Obama on a projector set up by our IT department.

I watched Aretha Franklin sing out in a bizarre but appropriately distracting hat while Cheney was wheeled around. I listened while vice president Joe Biden skipped over a couple pieces in his excitement and possible confusion. I attempted to decipher a poem that was possibly incredible but I couldn't get past the fact that it sounded like a reading lesson. I will blame that on nerves. Most importantly I watched a man that appeared so in shock by the momentous occasion he actually stumbled over most of the words. I was smiling for him. A real person. Our president.

It's about time.

Now let's hose out the house and see if maybe we can work on a few things.

I wanted so badly to watch it happen today. But my bosses, hardcore Republicans (and still bitter about the election), wouldn't let me. That didn't stop Hoop from calling me for a little celebratory hoot and dance around my cube though. Here's to 2009 and CHANGE.

I actually felt inspired by our country, that is so rare I almost couldn't place the feeling!

I kind of smiled at Justice Roberts and Obama both stumbling over the oath a bit. The moment was a bit more than they had anticipated, I think. And I think some people struggled with the cold just a bit.

But it doesn't matter because it was still a great day.

We were able to watch it here in the ER. There were about 10 of us nurses, doctors and EMTs in this 92 year old patients room. It made her day that we all shared this moment with her.

Ps- arethas hat was abnormally shockingly large.

Pss- such an amazing day!

I loved it. I watched it with my 5 month old nephew. I pointed to the TV and said "that man is your President!" and my nephew grinned. Oh yeah, he knows.

I feel very inspired. And I want to remember to be patient. It will take some time to fix all that has been royally screwed up.

I was just glad that, as a country, we have risen above any freakish events.

I was concerned. But, thankfully, it seems everyone there behaved as adults.

Though, I think they were crazy to stand miles back to be "there" when they could have been "there" (and warm) in their home or hotel room with a front row seat provided by the media.

:-) Tomorrow dawns a new day.

American Inauguration: The country stops to watch.

Canadian Inauguration: Business as usual.

Granted, it was a very special inauguration. Of course, we Canadians aren't as stuffy as you guys. We've actually had a woman prime minister, even if she did get to rule by default ;)

Were there a lot of people actually there?

I couldn't tell...Aretha's fucking hat blocked most of the view.

I think this is the first time in my lifetime that I've actually LIKED the person who is our president. I've favored one candidate over the other in the past, of course, but I never felt like I would LIKE them as a person.

I was so proud yesterday.

My neighbor took the day off work and hosted a party. We made all the kids sit in the room and really pay attention...hopefully they will appreciate it someday! And yes, we had to comment on Aretha's hat... but wow can that woman sing!

I like your attitude on his 'mess ups'. It might sound corny, but you know how you can write a letter to the President and get a signed photo? I wanna do that and frame it in my house, that's how much I respect and look forward to his influence upon our country. I'm a nerd.

I went camping, people are putting too much hope on one man. Keep this in mind, every president that changed things in this country for the better it was only after a bunch of ugly stuff.
