Shows and Whatnot

This month is kicking off fast. I had a busy weekend of Celebrating Jason's B-day after his Parodivas show Thursday night and Karaoke for his birthday Friday night (they kept trying to find our hidden liquor but they failed!). Saturday night I cooked a tasty lasagna with my lover boy Casey. We then ate the meal while watching Spinal Tap with his roommate Billy. Billy had never seen the movie. If you have never seen Spinal Tap you are really missing out so make sure you put it at the top of your to do list. Then on Sunday I went to Jason's B-day brunch. Unlimited drinks with Mexican food is the proper way to celebrate a birthday.

The show the Parodivas performed in on Thursday night was On The Rocks with Danny Leary. He did a little raffle and Jason's boytoy friend won two tickets to Iridium Jazz Club. He gave them to me!!! Well, after the Parodivas told him to. So Parodiva Darla went with me to the 10pm show on Monday night to see LES PAUL perform. It was amazing! I had a huge smile through the whole show and I even developed a little crush on Les. If you don't know anything about him, here is a little blurb taken from the Iridium website.

"Les Paul , Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, five-time Grammy Award winner, pioneer of the electric guitar and inventor of numerous recording tech-niques, such as reverb and multi-track recording was born June 9, 1915 in Waukesha Wisconsin."

That's right. I spent Monday night watching a hell of a show performed by a 93 year old man in a turtleneck. He flirted with his hot young bass player and jammed with a couple surprise guests. It was fantastic. If you get the chance to see this man I recommend you take it.

Yesterday I read what was possibly the best blog post ever written. Matt-Man at Bagwine Ruminations proposed to the lovely Schmoop via blog and we all waited anxiously in the comments for her to go on lunch break at work and respond. Luckily for Matt-Man she said yes (even if it ruins her credit score.) Congratulations Bagwine Lovers!

Tonight I'm going to some sort of 80's wrestling party. I have no idea what that means but at least I will have a story for later.

Are you busy on Halloween? You should come hear me sing at Don't Tell Mama 9pm Halloween night. The Parodivas are hosting a show and asked me to perform. It will be an amazing time, I promise you.

Go ahead, write it into your datebook. ;)

Wasn't Matt-Man's proposal post the absolute best?? The only down side is now I'll have to get a new blog crush ... you don't know anyone who would be interested, do you?? *wink*

OMG you're going to an 80's wrestling party?

My old man took me to wrestle mania 3.

I was .... 3 i think.

Dood, take me. I'll dress up like george the animal steel and chew on ropes all night.

Common!

I am still crushing on the hot female bass player. Is it weird that I ran home to tell my husband about the show and she was the first thing I mentioned, then re-mentioned later?

"His hands is not his biggest part." Mmm hhmm...yep.

Can I come see you on Halloweeeeeen?

Yay my bday, legendary musicians and HALLOWEEN SHOWWWWW.

um wrestling what now?

Dana- Honestly I didn't know if he was serious at first. It was really exciting to be in on the proposal. You can't have married blog crushes? Crap! Nobody ever told me that rule. ;)

FuriousBall- A tenacity unforeseen by mankind? Wow. Um... I like when they sing about mud flaps.

Gary- Maybe I will get a good recording of this one? You know, Casey told me he might dress as Nigel for Halloween. He would have to say that line ALL night.

Mike- Sure, come join. I think it is mostly women wrestling around in the floor of a bar but you would probably enjoy that too.

Darla- SHE WAS SO HOT! Did you look her up yet? I found her website with all these gorgeous pictures. Wow. I'm not surprised you mentioned her first. I started to write about her and realized it was a post in itself... of drool. That voice! Agh!

You can interview me on Halloween.

Jason- I'm not going to wrestle. I think that is how people get ringworm. Let's just sing and be legendary.

Bring a bucket of mud to that party tonight, you'll fit right in.
That's all I could think of for an 80's party. Have fun!

For anyone curious about the super hot bass player check out http://nickiparrott.com/

Micky-T - Mud buckets were an 80's thing? I was thinking hairspray would be a good weapon.

Funny you should mention Les Paul and Spinal Tap in the same post!
Eleven! This one has ELEVEN!!

Les Paul is amazing. The hands-on museum in Milwaukee, WI, had a special section all about him and his influence/inventions when we were there in July.

I had to introduce my husband to Spinal Tap. It is most definitely time to introduce my teens to this wonderful rockumentary spoof.

And for the "someday" when we make it up to NYC? I hope you will be singing/performing so we can come cheer you on!

Sounds like you are going to be busy, busy! Les Paul is fabulous and I would so like to see you perform, you must get a good recording for us all to enjoy.
There is a little something for you on my blog.

So, what's the possibilities of you u-tubing this performance for those of us who aren't out that way??
I'd love to hear you sing!!!!!!!!
have fun.

You saw Les Paul... Now I am totally jealous!

Did you turn Spinal Tap up to ELEVEN?!?!?!

As much as I'm not a Gibson fan, I'll tell you Les Paul had it right. I'm surprised he's still out doing shows. But if your name is on one of the two most popular guitars ever built ... you're a Jedi in my book.

I thought I heard he was dead, but I was thinking "Les Paul has GOT to be a hundred" when I read his name and then I kept reading and you pretty much confirmed it. Wow!
I'm gonna check out his hot bass player.
And Spinal Tap has got to be one of the funniest movies ever. I gave a copy to a coworker for X-mas last year. I love anything Christopher Guest and those guys do.

Oooooh! Would you sing it for us in a vlog? Please, please, pretty please? With Chocolate covered cherries on top...and, some cash?

Or record your show and vlog? Please? There is NO WAY I can get to NY for this.

Think about it??

Hump-Diggity's about over for this week!

Hope it was Happy! Sounds like! :-D

One of these days you're gonna be in a show and I'm going to just pull out the old credit card and just fly up there and show up. Then you are going to freak out and call the cops and get a restraining order. But, it'll be fun. LOL ;-)

Ooooo, I want to be there when Jay does that!! jay let me know!!!!
If we all chanted" vlog...vlog...vlog...

Wow - what a great post! I had a mad crush on the bass player that worked on the show I did in Denver a couple of summers ago. I used to watch him pluck those strings and get all gooey in my girlie parts. Nice forearms and hands.

Brunch was fun, and it was great to meet your Tall Lanky Jew!

So exciting to have so many awesome things going on...I already committed to see a show with Cricket if I am going to be in town on Halloween...but I may not be here at all. Have a great show!

What a great proposal story!

I wish I could see you on Halloween, that would be too cool for school. Sadly, we're going to some Halloween parade. It won't be the same.

I've always wanted to see Les Paul perform. Wonderful to hear he's still going strong!

Kcinnova- That sounds like an interesting museum. I was in Milwaukee twice and all I remember was some odd museum shaped like a boat.

Reb- I'll try to record something but it always sounds such poor quality off my camera.

TT- A clip from my last performance is hidden somewhere on youtube but I didn't post it because it is HORRIBLE. If I can come up with something better I will share it.

An Artist Exposed- It really was fantastic.

Knot- I tried but mine only go to 10.

Michael Knight Rambo- Yeah, he is fall over any minute old.

Farmer*swife- I'll attempt it and see how it comes out.

Jay- I wouldn't freak out and call the cops. I would buy you a couple drinks and introduce you to my friends. You would love it and move here.

TT- HA HA Maybe. So much pressure now!

Technodoll- It's the time of movie that not everyone gets the first time they see it and from then on every time you watch it you catch more. Have you watched the DVD with commentary? They do it in character and it's like a whole extra movie.

Matt-Man- The 80's wrestling party was this fantastic underground intense party and I'll blog all about it.

GMEyster- Bass playing is a very masculin thing but I tell you this chick was hot hot hot. I'm glad you were finally able to meet TLJ. Maybe you can make it to my Holiday show? It's Dec 18th.

Fiwa- That made me think of the Halloween parade in NY which is basically just a bunch of gay men wearing wigs and nothing else. It's a fun event.

Ne!- I'm sorry you were ill. We have been missing you.

LL- It was quite amazing. He still plays with such control and energy.

Captain Corky- Monday night what? I have no idea what you are talking about.

Gary- HAHAHA. Good choice! That was one HUGE mustache!

RLL- It was a great proposal but you had an unbelievable story to share today. Congratulations!

Anndi- I'm so glad I got the chance. It isn't easy to get in that place.

Hell yeah, the commentary bits is excellent!! In fact, guess what the man wants to watch tonight... again. LOL!

I came over from Dianne's and started reading some of your posts....I am old enough to remember hearing Les Paul and his wife Mary Ford performing together....They were GREAT! They made this famous recording of HOW HIGH THE MOON with the first over-dubbing, ever ever! And it was BRILLIANT! Have you ever heard it? It is really a Classic! No one had ever done that before...and they overdubbed the guitar and they overdubbed Mary...She had this very very pure voice and now, of course we take all of that for granted...But they were the FIRST, and they were, The BEST! They also made a Hilarious Album as two other people....And, it was very very popular too, because Mary, as "Darlene" sang just badly enough to be truly truly funny! It was not over the top in any way, and that is what made it even funnier!
I cannot get over that he is 93 and still performing!
DON'T TELL MAMA...a Great Great place....I wish I could see you there, but being in Los Angeles and unable to travel kind of precludes that....It sounds like it will be a fun evening!
